Here’s to New Beginnings!

Sometimes a lot of life gets packed into a short amount of time.

In the four years since my last post (that’s embarrassing to admit), I have divorced, moved completely across the country, cheered on all three of my children as they fully launch into their adult lives (hopefully they still need me now and then), and experienced the highs and lows of employment.

As the dust is settling, I’m trying to rediscover who I am, what I hope for out of a wide-open future, and what life can be when no longer responsible for the direct care of children and elders!  I am so grateful for the beautiful relationships I am building within my new church family. I am so ridiculously proud of my kids that sometimes my eyes leak just thinking about it. I am finding true peace and contentment in alone-ness.

My biggest area of discontent for the past year or so has been work. It has been meaningful, I know I have helped people, and I’d like to think I’m a pretty decent employee. BUT, CareTreks has always been on the backburner. It has always been the “and there’s this other thing I do” – basically the passion project that I couldn’t seem to find time and energy to pursue.

Since I am now only financially responsible for myself, I made some decisions and then some big changes.  It’s time to take the chance on discovering if CareTreks can grow into what I have always envisioned if I dedicate my working hours to it rather than to someone else’s organization.  Not gonna lie, it’s a little scary. But I feel mostly ready.

I have been working on getting things up to snuff, cleaned up the website, worked on the legal mumbo jumbo, and, while there are still things to polish up, I’m ready (enough) to go!

Time for me to jump into the deep end.

More importantly, time to help folks who are suddenly finding themselves in the deep end of the Caregiving pool – an ocean is probably more accurate – with shifting sand, unexpected currents, and both beautiful and scary things lurking just out of sight. You really shouldn’t swim like that without a buddy – and maybe a whole team is an even better idea.

I’m ready to toss you that proverbial life preserver and help you better navigate the Caregiving Journey you are on – whether you expected it or not. You might be surprised by the beauty you find once you get out of the crashing waves and go a little deeper!
